Mia started playing piano at age five and violin at age nine after being inspired by her father playing jazz.
Studied: She recently completed her final year at Sydney Conservatorium, studying with Associate Professor Alice Waten. She is currently on full scholarship at the National Academy of Music, Melbourne (2020).
Awards: First prize winner at the Open Recital section of the Canberra String Festival.
Other projects: In 2016 and 2017, Mia was selected to participate in Sydney Conservatorium’s Estivo Chamber Music Summer School in Italy, where her love of chamber music has continued to grow. She has worked with Eberhard Feltz and members of the London Haydn, Kuss, and Goldner Quartets.

Fiona (violin):
Studied: Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU); full scholarship holder at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) with Dr. Robin Wilson.
Prizes: First prize-winner of the Ena Williams Award, Postgraduate Prize, Owen Fletcher Prize, Barbara Hebden Bursary, Matilda Jane Aplin Prize, Vada Jefferies Prize, Basil Jones Sonata Prize, Nora Baird Bursary, The German Violin Travel Bursary and the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence.
Masterclasses: Fiona has also performed in many masterclasses, including the 2018 Musica Viva masterclass series with world-renowned violinist Ray Chen.
Solo: featured on 4MBS Classic FM as the winner of the QCGU Brisbane Clubs Award and the Club’s Audience Choice Award. Fiona was also a violin soloist with the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and Kelvin Grove Orchestra.
Orchestra: Concertmaster of the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra during their performance of Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben, where she enjoyed tackling one of the most challenging concertmaster solos in the orchestral repertoire. Fiona was twice the Concertmaster of the Australian Youth Orchestra’s (AYO) National Music Camp and attended the 2019 AYO International Tour and Chamber Players program.
Fiona also loves exploring other genres of music and has performed alongside singer and songwriter Katie Noonan.
Outside of music, Fiona is passionate about food photography and frequently blogs about Brisbane and Melbourne eats online.

Member of the Rising Star program at the Sydney Conservatorium. Hana has given concerts at cancer hospitals since the age of 10 and has won many eisteddfods – including Junior champion.

Kristian (violin):
“Australia’s wunderkind of the violin, Kristian Winther, returns to both direct and perform the solo part in this much-anticipated premiere of Beethoven’s violin concerto in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall.”
Born in Canberra in 1984 to pianist parents, Kristian Winther studied violin and conducting.
Concerto debut: Sibelius Violin Concerto in 2000
Soloist: Melbourne Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic, and the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra.
Kristian performed the Australian premieres of Brett Dean’s Violin Concerto “The Lost Art of Letter Writing”.
Guest Assistant Concertmaster: Adelaide Symphony, WA Symphony, & the Hong Kong Philharmonic.
Concertmaster: Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony, Guest Director and Leader of ACO2.
Competition Winner: Banff International String Quartet Competition. This was followed by critically acclaimed tours of the USA and Europe.
Other projects: Kristian is also a composer. He premiered his work for string quartet “…etude” at the Sydney Opera House.
Kristian has performed with many celebrated musicians, including Anne-Sophie Van Otter, Richard Tognetti, Brett Dean, and Piers Lane, and has conducted at the Canberra International Music Festival & the Melbourne International Arts Festival.
Ioana (violin):
Ioana began learning the violin at age five in New Zealand after her family emigrated from Serbia. She has performed as a core member of the Australian String Quartet.
Her musical background is very much grounded in Romanian and Serbian folk music.

She has collaborated with Melbourne band Architecture in Helsinki on a string quartet performance project of their songs and provided recording musicians to the Australian band The Presets.

She has organised a solo violinist to perform throughout Australia for M.A.C Cosmetics – including an event for M.A.C at Vogue Fashion Night Out and a string quartet for the Harpers Bazaar Woman of the Year Awards.
Lucie has booked orchestras to perform music in popular Final Fantasy concerts in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and music at the State Theatre for Disney.
She has staged a string orchestra performance of House of Cards at the Sydney Town Hall for Vivid Festival. This event was an on-stage Leigh Sales interview of Beau Willimon, the House of Cards director.
In 2017, Lucie organised an orchestra for the Sydney Opera House so final decisions on the new acoustics being installed in the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House could be made.
Lucie has organised musicians to record string parts for acclaimed arranger Jessica Wells of Jigsaw Music at Sonar Studios and Fox Studios, musicians for pre-show entertainment concerts for the TV show Q & A, and has programmed and directed two concert series for the Sydney Opera House in 2017.
