At 17, Alex won the National Youth Concerto Competition and became the youngest player to win a permanent position with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Alex then won a Fellowship with the Sydney Symphony and soon after was appointed to the First Violins.

Beatrice (violin):

Orchestra: Australian Chamber Orchestra Emerging Artist (2023 & 2024); Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Studying: Bachelor of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Goetz Richter.
Awards: After winning the Sydney Conservatorium String Concerto Competition in 2022, Beatrice performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra.She received the 1st and audience prizes at the Kendall National Violin Competition (2023), the Richard Mills first prize at the Melbourne Bach Competition (2021) and a finalist in the 2022 Great Romantics Competition.
In 2020, Beatrice, with her brother and cousins as the Cousin Quartet, won Musica Viva’s Inaugural Strike A Chord national chamber music competition, which led to a week-long residency at ANAM and the opportunity to perform the Shostakovich Octet with the Flinders Quartet for Melbourne Digital Concert Hall.

Beatrice has a great love of chamber music. Last year, she toured NSW with the Winther Quartet with Kristian Winther and was awarded the Henderson Travelling Scholarship with her conservatorium string quartet Asta, travelling in July to study in Finland, Austria and Germany with the “Quatuor Danel”, Johannes Meissl and Gregor Sigl. Her current quartet at the Conservatorium has been awarded the Travelling Scholarship and will travel next year to Germany for masterclasses. She recently had a masterclass with the Vision String Quartet. Other chamber music collaborators include Anthony Marwood, Julian Smiles, Roger Benedict, and the Brodsky Quartet.

Beatrice has performed with Stringspace since 2022.


Mia (violin):

Thibaud (violin):

Thibaud Pavlovic-Hobba is an Australian-French violinist. Thibaud began playing the violin after receiving it as his fifth birthday present.

Kristian (violin):

“Australia’s wunderkind of the violin, Kristian Winther, returns to both direct and perform the solo part in this much-anticipated premiere of Beethoven’s violin concerto in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall.”

Born in Canberra in 1984 to pianist parents, Kristian Winther studied violin and conducting.

Concerto debut: Sibelius Violin Concerto in 2000

Soloist: Melbourne Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic, and the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra.

Kristian performed the Australian premieres of Brett Dean’s Violin Concerto “The Lost Art of Letter Writing”.

Guest Assistant Concertmaster: Adelaide Symphony, WA Symphony, & the Hong Kong Philharmonic.

Concertmaster: Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony, Guest Director and Leader of ACO2.

Competition Winner: Banff International String Quartet Competition. This was followed by critically acclaimed tours of the USA and Europe.

Other projects: Kristian is also a composer. He premiered his work for string quartet “…etude” at the Sydney Opera House.

Kristian has performed with many celebrated musicians, including Anne-Sophie Van Otter, Richard Tognetti, Brett Dean, and Piers Lane, and has conducted at the Canberra International Music Festival & the Melbourne International Arts Festival.

Kristian has performed with Stringspace since 2011.


Mirabai (violin):

Mirabai grew up in the bush southwest of Sydney, Australia, as the daughter of painter John Peart & a healer.

Studied: Australian Institute of Music and the Sydney Conservatorium with Alice Waten. Further violin studies have been at the SIMA Women’s Jazz Course in India, Bulgaria, the USA, Kyriakos Gouventas & Costas Karapanos in  Greece and Husnu Tuszuz in Istanbul, Turkey.

Collaborations:  William Barton, Judy Bailey, Lucky Oceans, The Sydney Dance Company (on-stage string quartet), The Noise, Sydney Festival & Taikoz. Her duo album with Ryan Francesconi, Road To Palios, was released on Bella Union, followed by tours throughout Europe & Japan.

Pop: Toured internationally extensively with harp player singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom. She also wrote and recorded string parts for Kim Moyes from The Presets.

Studied: Sydney Conservatorium of Music Bachelor of Music with Professor Alice Waten. Member of the Rising Star program at the Sydney Conservatorium. Hana has given concerts at cancer hospitals since age ten and has won many eisteddfods – including Junior Champion—full scholarship holder at the National Academy of Music.

Awards: Winner of the Marcus Edward Violin Scholarship and twice a semi-finalist at the Kendall National Violin Competition.

Formerly a member of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, Katherine also performs with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. James (viola):

Lucie Miller | Stringspace Founder & Director:

Stringspace Director: Establishing Stringspace in 2003, Lucie has organised music for U2 (at the Sydney Opera House), Tiffany & Co., Alannah Hill, the Sydney Opera House, The Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet, Australian Film Director Peter Weir, Hopscotch Films, Bell Shakespeare, Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Fashion Week, Sir Richard Branson, Ferrari Maserati, Sydney Writers’ Festival, Sydney Fashion Week & Global TV. She has collaborated with Melbourne band Architecture in Helsinki on a string quartet performance project of their songs and provided recording musicians to the Australian band The Presets.

Most recently, Lucie performed as part of the Stringspace String Quartet at Parliament House for Their Royal Highnesses William and Kate – the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. This event was hosted by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Lucie has provided numerous jazz bands for Tiffany & Co. – in Sydney, Melbourne & Adelaide, and a jazz band in-store for Louis Vuitton. She has organised a solo violinist to perform throughout Australia for M.A.C Cosmetics – including an event for M.A.C at Vogue Fashion Night Out and a string quartet for the Harpers Bazaar Woman of the Year Awards.

Lucie has booked orchestras to perform music in popular Final Fantasy concerts in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and music at the State Theatre for Disney.

She has staged a string orchestra performance of House of Cards at the Sydney Town Hall for Vivid Festival. This event was an on-stage Leigh Sales interview of Beau Willimon, the House of Cards director.

In 2017, Lucie organised an orchestra for the Sydney Opera House so final decisions on the new acoustics being installed in the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House could be made.

Lucie has organised musicians to record string parts for acclaimed arranger Jessica Wells of Jigsaw Music at Sonar Studios and Fox Studios, musicians for pre-show entertainment concerts for the TV show Q & A, and has programmed and directed two concert series for the Sydney Opera House in 2017.

Lucie has toured extensively, performing in hundreds of concerts throughout France, Germany, and Australia with The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Cologne (1999 – 2002), and has performed in many opera and ballet seasons with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra (2003 – 2024). She has directed, edited & produced all the Stringspace film clips featured on our YouTube Channel StringspaceLive, and comes from a family of third-generation professional musicians and artists.
